The States of Guernsey recently published local unemployment figures of 254 jobseekers without work as at the end of June 2025, a decrease of 10 people compared to May, so not too much of a difference month on month.
The Guernsey Employment Market
In relation to office-based work, there are still plenty of local jobs available. Indeed at Situations we have several hundred office vacancies outstanding at any one time, mainly based in the finance sector.
Guernsey's employment landscape remains strong, with employment figures steadily rising by 1% year‑on‑year, and the island now housing c.32,000 working residents out of a total population (including a large number of elderly people) of c.£65k.
Recruitment Spotlight
In this competitive and evolving job market, the candidate vetting, reviewing and shortlisting services provided by a recruitment agency such as ours remain crucial. There is a stable demand in desk-based roles. We continue to thoroughly and personally match qualified and experienced candidates with these opportunities, helping to bridge the gap between jobseekers and employers.
Outlook
Although recent figures indicate some softening in the local labour market, Guernsey’s offshore status and tight working conditions—low unemployment, competitive salaries, and hundreds of available office vacancies—offset such concerns. We are actively facilitating quality candidate placements at various levels, both permanent and temporary, on a regular basis.
Looking ahead, employers may be cautious in hiring, yet certain sectors, particularly the finance industry, will continue to seek skilled professionals. Access to agency-led vacancies and training programmes offer pathways to stability, with full-time and upskilling options providing promising career avenues.
