In the Guernsey employment market, we’re seeing a similar picture to the UK for permanent placements; we’ve had a flood of new vacancies in over the last 6 weeks and a big increase in permanent staff placements.
However on the temp side, conversely to the UK, we saw a peak month for temp placements at the start of this year.
Key points from the REC/IHS Markit UK recruitment report:
Permanent placements increase at quickest pace in one year
- Growth in permanent placements picked up from January’s recent low to reach a one-year high in February!
- Starting salaries for candidates placed into permanent roles increased at the quickest pace since March 2016 in February
- Demand rose for all permanent job categories in February, with the strongest increases seen for Engineering and IT & Computing
Temp billings growth softens to four-month low
- In contrast to permanent placements, the temp billings increased at the softest pace in four months
- Hourly pay rates in temporary employment continued on an upward trend in February
Demand for staff reaches 18-month peak
- Job vacancies continued to increase in February. Overall, demand for staff rose at the quickest rate in one-and-a-half years, with both permanent and temporary workers seeing faster increases
- Private sector demand for staff remained substantially stronger than that for public sector staff in February
